Ayer-Shirley Regional Middle School Band Will Sing National Anthem at Bravehearts Game in June

SHIRLEY – The Ayer-Shirley Regional Middle School band is teaming up with the Worcester Bravehearts for one special night at the ballpark.

On Sunday, June 12, band members will head to Fitton Field, on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. The band will sing the national anthem during the team’s pregame festivities before taking their seats to watch the Bravehearts host the perennial power New Britain Bees.

The Ayer-Shirley Tracker reached out to and was able to reach Ayer-Shirley Regional Middle School Band Director Rachael Fletcher who spoke about the opportunity for her students to take the field in Worcester next month.

“I have taken the middle school in the past to play at the Worcester Bravehearts games and it is such a fun time,” said Fletcher. “With the restrictions on field trips that were in place at the beginning of the school year, I couldn't plan any trips. Usually, the band takes a few throughout the year, but we haven't gone on any since the COVID pandemic began. When the field trip restrictions were lifted this year, I wanted to make sure the students had something fun to do.”

The first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm on June 12, with gates opening an hour before game time. Ticket options are available to meet your budget including an all-you-can-eat option that also includes a Bravehearts team hat. Tickets are available for as little as $9 and all kids in attendance have the option to run the bases at the conclusion of the ballgame.

“This seemed like the perfect family-friendly event,” said Fletcher. “Anyone from the Middle School can purchase the discounted tickets and attend the game. It is going to be a great time.”

The Worcester Bravehearts are a member of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL), a wooden bat summer collegiate baseball league that features some of the best baseball talents at the college level in New England. The eight teams in the FCBL play a 64-game schedule. The league includes four teams from Massachusetts, two teams from Connecticut, and one team each from New Hampshire and Vermont.

The FCBL season begins the final week of May and the regular season runs through the second week of August.

The Bravehearts are four-time FCBL champions, last winning the crown in 2019.
